I’m a sports bettor and normally that is where I realize my significant gains for the year. However, thanks to several old timers who have played craps for longer than I have been in this world, I’m not bad at dice either.

Long before I ever read the first word on dice setting, I met up with a gentleman by the name of Samuel in a southern casino. Samuel and his wife are in their sixties and travel in their RV along with their little Yorkie Dog and I met them outside the casino one day when I was jogging and they were walking their dog.

As conversation would have it, Samuel was a dice player and I told him I had just started to play so I would look for him later that evening and maybe he could share a few tips with me. He told me he’d be happy to and began to give me some tips right there on the spot. His belief was that dice setting was over-rated and to this day that is the only thing we still disagree on whenever we meet up to play craps. He shared with me his dice stories and talked to me about setting dice and something called rhythmic rolling.

Later at the casino that night, we met up and he showed me what his ideal of rhythmic rolling was and how I could use it to my advantage with the right dealers working the craps tables. He’s able to find the ‘right dealers’ because he involves them in his game and when they have enough money riding on the table with you , they’ll keep the dice moving. Samuel’s favorite saying is, “with a stickman on your side, that’s half of the battle with rhythmic rolling.” And he’s right. I shoot craps and can always hold onto the dice a little longer than the average shooter because I’ve learned to be a rhythmic shooter. A lot of your dice setters will not bet with me until they’ve seen me make a point. And I can’t say that I blame them, I don’t bet with them either until I’m comfortable they can set the dice quickly and control

(At least to some degree) where they land.

Dice setters would consider playing with me or Samuel sort of like Russian roulette. And there may be a very good reason for that, after all I’ve seen some lousy shooters who profess to be rhythmic shooters ( then again I’ve seen some awful dice setters too ). So far, I’ve always been fairly good at my rhythmic shooting and I couldn’t shoot worth a darn prior to meeting Samuel.

Still, I later discovered that setting dice would help me if I could master a quick set while never losing my rhythm and this is something which has helped my play significantly. That too, was taught to me by watching an old timer by the name of Sparks. I think that was his real name, but because I didn’t want to call him something that might show disrespect, I called him Mr. Sparks. This old timer showed me how to quickly find a set, pat out a rhythm which is never broken and let the dice roll. I contribute many thousands of dollars in wins to his theory of ‘shooting dice’.

One thing that I’ve learned through my many years of gambling is that I’m still a student of learning new strategies and new ways of doing things. Mr. Sparks’ rhythmic rolling is not at all what many people would perceive it to be , yet because I took the time to listen to the ranting of this older gentleman , my game is tops. People look for me at a craps table because I can shoot the dice. If that sounds overly confident, it is. I have the wins behind me to feel that way and yet, I’m still looking for an old timer to help me improve my game. After all, I’m a firm believer that you are only as good as your last roll and you never know when your last roll will need some improvement.
